The year is now
behind us, and for many of us, this is also the time to take stock of what we
left behind; whether unfinished or not. This is also a time that I lay out my
list of things I love to see, some that I would rather do without and yet
others that have no worldly effect on anyone other than me…so here goes:
Top Fourteen Things I Will Look Forward
to*
1. Peace on Earth, ok, this one is a
“gimmie” but instead of ending with it I thought I would lead with it, after
all, who doesn’t want this. Except maybe, Faux News or the Tea Party, or those
idiots whose idea of a good time is to walk into a gathering with explosives
strapped to their bodies.
2. More original Latin Music, I must say
that the music coming out today lacks a bit of originality. There is something
to be said about replicating your sound in a live performance, aw hell; lets
extend this out to all types of music. To my musician friends, I am referring
to the drek that is being broadcast, and not your stuff, you know who you are.
PS…when you mix salsa and reggaeton, you get crap. Seriously.
3. I hope that Israel recovers from their
collective amnesia. How can a people forget the many years of pogroms, genocide
and virulent anti Semitism still active in the world. It is my belief that you
have been given a gift, and are betraying the trust handed to you by the
Creator; if you are truly the chosen people, then behave as such. Generations
of enemies are being created every day. On the other side of the coin, we must
ask, where is the next Gandhi, the next MLK. One God created all, call him\her
what you wish, but understand that we wall will have to pay the piper.
4. Can we collectively throw away this
idiotic notion that we, as Americans, are exceptional? Lets agree that we have
pretty much fucked things up for the last fifty years or so, some would argue
even longer than that. Compared to other people, we have only been around for
what, less that there hundred years. Shit, China has shoes older than that.
5. More love, more kissing, more poetry,
more dreaming impossible dreams.
6.
Lets
lower the walls
7. Don’t play your relationship woes on
“social” media. I am sorry that your significant other is treating you like
crap, take control and leave that idiot.
8. I pray that my progressive friends stop
living in an alternate universe, lets work hard to deal with the problems that
we face as a society together. The past is a lesson so that we may face the
future. There is almost no point in living in the past.
9. Lets understand that we will make
mistakes.
10. No one has a monopoly on a perfect life.
11. Write more stuff, watch a silly TV show,
watch cartoons with the kids, eat that last blueberry muffin.
12. Please be truthful with one another; but
if the truth is going to hurt someone, try to soften the blow
13. Give thanks everyday for the gift that
you are living. Try to ease someone else’s burden. Babysit for a friend. Help
that harried couple by giving them a date night or afternoon. Share your bounty.
14. And finally, love much. Dream more. Be
more passionate towards one another. Kiss, hold hands, pretend today is the
last day.
*I
know some of you will think or even say out load that I must be living in some
sort of LaLa land, I assure I am not, but if we don’t strive towards a better
future, then I ask, What’s the point? In any event if you do nothing else. See
